Monteris Medical said today it is opening a new facility that will act as its headquarters in Plymouth, Minn. on Wednesday this week.
Plymouth Mayor Kelli Slavik will host a ribbon cutting event for the new facility, followed by a speech from Monteris CEO John Schellhorn and a tour of the new facility.
“As part of an established and growing medical technology corridor with a highly skilled workforce, Plymouth is a perfect location to continue our next phase of growth and development. We have been fortunate to expand rapidly over the previous 4 years and are excited to make our new home in a facility that will accommodate our expanding employee base and serve as our global operations center,” Schellhorn said in prepared remarks.
Monteris produces the NeuroBlate system, which is an FDA-cleared device designed to ablate, necrotize or coagulate soft tissue during neurosurgery procedures through laser thermotherapy, and is not intended for any specific disease or lesion type, the company said.
“We’re delighted to see Monteris Medical succeed and expand in our community – especially at such an impressive pace. Forward-driven companies like Monteris Medical showcase the spirit of innovation in Plymouth, especially in our thriving med-tech sector. We’re very proud to have them as part of our community,” Slavik said in a press release.
The company said it expanded its employee base by approximately 50% in 2015 and plans to boost that number an additional 30% by 2016. Approximately 50% of the company’s employees are based in Plymouth, Monteris said.
Last September, Monteris said that data from a study of its NeuroBlate minimally invasive robotic laser thermotherapy tool showed improved outcomes for patients undergoing procedures with the device.
A study of the device, used to treat glioblastomas in 22 patients who had not received prior radiation or chemotherapy, found extent of coverage for 10-minute and 2 minute thermal-damage procedures to be 91% and 94%, respectively.
In a separate study, the New Orleans-based company said the NeuroBlate SideFire directional laser was used successfully in its 1st ablation of the hippocampus and amygdala.
