4. Ex-banker’s father avoids jail time in insider trading case
The father of a former investment banker with JP Morgan and Perella Weinberg Partners accused of insider trading avoided jail after pleading guilty to the charges last year.
Federal prosecutors accused Robert Stewart, son Sean Stewart and a 3rd man with using inside information to trade the stock of 5 healthcare companies acquired between 2011 and 2014. Read more
3. Lungpacer Medical hits the FDA fast track with phrenic nerve pacer
Lungpacer Medical said it won an expedited access pathway designation from the FDA for the diaphragm pacing system it’s developing to treat patients who can’t be weaned from mechanical ventilation.
The Lungpacer DPS device is a neurostimulation system designed to exercise and strengthen the diaphragm via the temporary, transcatheter stimulation of the phrenic nerve. Read more
2. Appeals court upholds Medtronic’s win in patent spat with doc inventor
A federal appeals court yesterday upheld a win for Medtronic in a patent dispute over its CoreValve aortic valve replacement with inventor Dr. Troy Norred, according to legal filings.
The physician’s 2013 patent infringement lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for Kansas, was stayed until a trio of inter partes reviews by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office’s Patent Trial & Appeals Board were concluded, according to court documents. Read more
1. TransEnterix shelves SurgiBot after FDA denial, turns to ALF-X
TransEnterix is shelving its SurgiBot robot-assisted surgery platform and focusing on the ALF-X platform it acquired last year.
Stock prices for the Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based plunged last month when TransEnterix revealed that the FDA denied its submission for 510(k) clearance for the SurgiBot, which it claims as the 1st patient-side robotically enhanced laparoscopy platform designed to be wheeled to a patient’s bedside for single-port procedures.
